2016 Geek-A-Long: Halo

34 Halo 3

“When I joined the Corps, we didn’t have any fancy-schmanzy tanks. We had sticks! Two sticks, and a rock for the whole platoon—and we had to share the rock!”-Sergeant Johnson

I am not the target audience for Halo. That’s OK. I respect all of our brotato chips out there. The A-bro-ham Lincolns of this world. The Brofessors of Broganic Chemistry. Brocheters and Knitbros alike. So this week we are honoring Halo, a sci-fi first person shooter, even though we exist only on the fringes of its outer brorbits.

34 Halo 2

Don’t take my brocabulary as an implication that we think Halo is somehow a “boy’s game.” Girls can be bros too! Equal op-bro-tunity. In fact, I was thrilled to see it nominated to the blanket by one of our own Geek-A-Long ladies, Sophiecake:

I nominate Halo!!! It’s my absolute favorite video game series. I spent many a college night shooting aliens on the boys’ side of my dorm. When I moved into my first apartment, I hosted Halo tournaments and when I got married and pregnant I used my belly as a resting place for my controller while I played for hours online with those same college friends (several years later). blush

You go ladybro!

Whether you’re knitting, crocheting, or cross stitching this square, you can download the Halo pattern here. Instructions for both knit and crochet are listed in the pattern. When you’re finished making it, don’t forget to tweet or instagram your squares at me @Doctor_Llama and Jac @jac_attacking or with the hashtag #geekalong!

If you’re having trouble with double-sided knitting, we have a how-to video here and a tutorial on crochet here. Want to hang out with other people making the blanket? You can find moral support in the Geek-A-Long group on Ravelry here.

I love you, bros.
