Stitch Your Art Out

For Jac’s 30th birthday, I kidnapped her. (You can read more about our adventure here.) As a part of her birthday shenanigans, we went to as many local yarn stores as we could in two days. Stitch Your Art Out was one of the first great stores we had the pleasure of visiting.

Stitch Your Art Out is an adorable yarn shop located in Pine Grove Mills, Pennsylvania near State College. So near it, in fact, that if you’re aiming to get there via GPS, they recommend using “State College” as the city:

235 E. Pine Grove Rd.
State College, PA 16801

With zero knowledge of the area and nothing but the above address to go on, we had no trouble finding it. Just make sure you slow down when you get close so that you don’t miss the driveway to the parking behind the building. There is a big sign pointing towards it, but we almost missed it. I blame it on my caffeine deficiency at the time.

They had a nice selection and carried everything from Cascade to Rowan to Plymouth Yarn. However, one of the greatest finds was Peppino by The Yarns of Rhichard Devrieze. The line of limited edition fingering weight yarn was named after the first Merino ram they purchased and its pure magic in your hands. The colorways are gorgeous and expectedly so since Devrieze has spent the last 12 years hand-dyeing. It came highly recommend from the shop owners, Kim and Cynthia.

Kim also recommended Shepherd’s Wool Yarn from Stonehedge Fiber Mill. The label says it’s a worsted weight, but it almost feels as if it’s bordering on chunky. Either way, it’s a smooth and incredibly soft for wool. I can’t wait to work with it and the Peppino!

Every local yarn store (LYS) aims to have that something extra special that sets them apart and one of the things that sets Stitch Your Art Out apart is their collection of quilting supplies. Kim is an avid quilter and her passion shows from the wide selection of contemporary fabrics to the notions. I’ve never quilted in my life, but being surrounded by those bolts of fabric while I walked around with Merino wool in my hands made me want to try it!

If you live in Central PA or are just passing through like we were, swing by Stitch Your Art Out. You won’t regret it. Their hours are 10am-5:30pm, Monday through Saturday. You can find them on Facebook here or their website here.

While we would love to have our own line of yarn one day, we currently don’t sell wool. The yarn featured in the post was made by Rhichard Devrieze and Stonehedge Fiber Mill. There are links to their respective website are in the article, both of which have shop finders.
